How to Cleanse Your Energy When You Have Had Rough Day

We all know what it is like to feel the imprint of a rough day and although it affects us all differently the one common thread is that it causes discomfort. Whether it is a hard day at work, a disagreement, an injury, unexpected news, running late for something important, or one of the other million reasons why our day has been a little rocky, it is important for us to remember that that the energy is constantly moving, and if we allow it, it will pass.

There is an invitation to understand how energy moves within us so that we can develop the resources we need to help protect our energy, and release what we may be holding on to. In this article, we will explore a few simple but powerful practices that can help to cleanse our energy after we have had a rough day.

Energy is meant to change forms constantly.Ā  We see this best in young children who can be sad one minute, and joyful the next.Ā  The difficulty, as adults, is that we have a tendency to hold on to our thoughts, emotions and physical pain longer than necessary, and the energy that wants to transform, to become something else, gets stuck.

When we get stuck, physically, mentally, emotionally, spiritually, our energy becomes denser, heavier, as a result, we can get caught up in a loop of complaining, criticising, blaming others, living in a state of disorder and worse, illness.

These simple practices (or rituals if you would prefer) are a great way of being present to the energy that is moving within you, they will also help to let go of what is not serving you and welcome energetic protection.

Practices to Cleanse & Protect Your EnergyĀ

Purifying Water

Water is a giver of life, a source of purification, and an element that can be infused with sacred blessings. Religious traditions have long utilized water in their rituals from the washing of oneself before daily prayers (Islam); pilgrimages to sacred rivers (Hinduism); the baptism and admission of a soul into a religious sect (Christianity). Water symbolizes regeneration, fertility, purification, and transformation. Across the globe spiritual traditions revere water and use it in rituals of purification, blessing, and connection into divine paths.

Go for a swim in a lake, river or the ocean. If you canā€™t fully submerge, take a handful of water and pour it over your forehead, let it wash down over you, perhaps imagine as it trickles down that it is purifying you, and releasing any built-up energy back into nature.

Take a bath and if possible create a small ritual for yourself, perhaps add some salt (preferably epsom salts, but table salt if needed) essential oils, flower petals, herbs, we did a great post a while back onĀ simple herbs from the garden and their healing properties as a bath tonic, check it out here.

The theory of ā€œwater memoryā€ postulates that water can hold the imprint or ā€œmemoryā€ of a substance once diluted in it. This idea is further explored by Japanese authorĀ Masaru EmotoĀ who suggests that human consciousness has an effect on the molecular structure of water. In his view, blessings and prayers can change the molecular structure of water and give it more vitality.

Fill your glass of water and take a moment to bless it with love, joy, compassion, any healing prayers that may help to shift or transform the energy that is disturbing you.

Watch aĀ visual sound-scaped water journey into the Secret Life of Water together with Masaru Emotoā€™s Messages from Water. This guided meditation is purposed to raise the conscious awareness of water, and is dedicated to the Life & Love of Masaru Emoto for opening the worldā€™s minds and hearts together though water. Water is what connects us all. We are Water.

Chanting

Try chanting a mantra. There are many mantraā€™s specific to protection and energetic vitality, one of our absolute favourites is Aad Guray Nameh by Deva Premal. If chanting is new to you and would like to understand more about the healing powers of mantra check out our post onĀ Science Proves the Powers of Chanting.

Crystals and Gemstones

Crystals and Gemstones used to be a really new age thing, but it seems they are becoming more and more and mainstream, which is great! Gemstones emit their own energetic frequency, which can help to shift energetic blockages and offer a field of protection for us on a physical, mental, emotional and spiritual level.

The key is to choose a gemstone that aligns with the type of protection you need in your life. There are countless crystals that can offer energetic support, here are nine that may be beneficial to youā€¦

Ā

1. Black Tourmaline (Black Stone for Protection)

Colour: Black
Chakra: Root

Black tourmaline is a powerful all-round stone for protection and is a must have for your collection. Itā€™s probably the best crystal for repelling lower energies and frequencies, or forĀ encouraging a more positive emotional attitude.

2. Jet

Colour: Black
Chakra: Root

Jet isnā€™t a crystal but fossilised wood. Itā€™s harder than coal and is said to protect against violence or illness.

3.Ā Black Obsidian

Colour: Black
Chakra: Root

Black obsidian is a formidable healing stone for protection. Itā€™s formed through volcanic eruptions and combines several raw and powerful elements such as fire, earth and water. We are fortunate to have a lot of Obsidian here on the Coromandel.

Ā

4. Smoky Quartz (Stone of Cooperation)

Colour: ā€‹Light to Dark Smokey Grey/Brown
Chakra:Ā Root

Smoky quartz transmutesĀ unlimited negative energy and is a must have for spiritual or psychic protection. It can dissolve negative energy fields, caused by thoughts such as anger and resentment, before grounding them back to earth.

5. Amethyst (Stone of Spirituality, Meditation and Contentment)

Colour: ā€‹ā€‹Purple to Lavender
Chakra:Ā Crown and Third Eye

As one of the most spiritual of stones, Amethystā€™s high vibration will protect your energy field against psychic attack and negativity.Ā Itā€™s another powerful protection stone but, due to its high vibration, has the wonderful attribute of transmuting negative energy into positive.

Ā

6. Fluorite (Stone of Discernment and Aptitude)

Colour: ā€‹Rainbow of Colours
Chakra:Ā Heart, Throat, Third Eye

Fluoriteā€™s essence is purely protective. So, if youā€™re struggling with unwanted outside influences, negative behaviour patterns or stress, fluorite will help. Itā€™s also great for guarding against other peopleā€™s attitudes.

7. Hematite (Stone for the Mind)

Colour: Silver, Black, Red with Metallic Sheen
Chakra:Ā Root

Hematite, with its high iron content and metallic lustre, doesnā€™t work like other stones for protection.Ā Instead of just absorbing lower frequency energy, it also creates a protective shield around the body that reflects negative energies back to the sender.

Ā

8. Blue Kyanite

Colour: ā€‹Blue/White
Chakra:Ā All, But Especially Throat and Third Eye

Blue kyanite is the perfect healing crystal if youā€™re suffering from any type of bullying or manipulation.

9. Labradorite (Stone for Serendipity)

Colour: ā€‹Blue/White
Chakra:Ā All, But Especially Throat and Third Eye

Labradoriteā€™s combination of iridescent colours gives you the confidence and ability to be who you are, without worry that others are going to feed off your energy.

This is just a brief overview of how these stones may be able to help you, which has been sourced from Angel Grotto. If you are interested to learn more about the energetic healing and protection qualities of these crystals we recommendĀ checking out their website here > There are many ways to work with the healing powers of crystals, the simplest of which is to carry one on your person, whether that is in your pocket, as a piece of jewellery, or even in your handbag. Alternatively, you can create a small little pouch, a medicine bag, that includes a few different crystals, empowering words, symbols or any other totems that provide protection and energetic purification, which you can carry or have close at hand. Some crystals can be added to your drinking water or bath. You may like to place a stone under your bed while you are sleeping at night. For more complex rituals you can explore ways of integrating crystal energy with the phases of the moon or learn to set a crystal grid.

Smudging

Since ancient times, our ancestors have burned sacred herbs and resins, believing the sacred smoke to raise vibrations, dispel negativity, and assist with spiritual work. Today, we know this process as smudging, and for many it is an essential element to cleansing space in preparation for a ceremony or ritual.

The process is simple. You will need a smudge stick (which is really just a bunch of dried herbs tied together). When you light the herbs take a moment to let the flame catch and then self extinguish. Breathe onto the embers to generate heat and encourage the smoke. Place the smudge bundle into a heat proof bowl, tray or shell that can catch the ashes as it burns. Always be respectful of the power of fire when used in this ritualistic way.

As the smoke rises into the air, picture your intention, whatever it may be. If you are clearing negative energy, picture its density and see it lifting away. Healing? Then imagine the smoke cleansing any illness or injury. Whatever it is, envision it floating away on the smoke. You can pray or chant if you feel called. Use your hands or a smudge fan to guide the smoke over yourself and around your living space.

Itā€™s important to know that all plants are sacred, not just sage! Each plant carries its own magical properties and benefits, and you can pick one to resonate with your specific intention. You could try burning dried lavender, rosemary, lemongrass, basil, cinnamon, dandelion, eucalyptus, frankincense, thyme, palo santo, cedar, or any other kind of common sage.

Bioenergetic Shaking

We live in a thinking culture that believes all problems can be solved through thinking our way through them. This is troublesome, especially as we know willpower and self-discipline are limited resourcesĀ which deplete significantly over the course of a dayā€”depending on the impact of factors such as conflict, decisions, and distractions.

When our minds grow weary, we ā€˜thinkā€™ weā€™ve used up all our energy but a simple activation practice can allow us to drop our of heads and into our bodies where there is an abundance of resources. Not only will this practice re-energise your being, but it will also help to loosen and release tension that has built up through overactive thinking.

  1. Stand with your feet shoulder-width apart and arms down by your side.
  2. Begin to vibrate and shake different parts of the body, exploring different and unusual movement patternsā€”the wilder the better.
  3. Make sure to breathe deeply to help circulate oxygen and loosen up those tense muscles.

Take 10 minutes right now to awaken your body with this guided bioenergetic shaking practice.

These are just five of many simple ways to cleanse and protect your energy. Now more than ever with the amount of energy we are exerting on devices, in communication with others, and just meeting the demands of a busy life, it is essential that we are exploring ways to nurture and nourish our selves.

We hope that these practices are an invitation, a starting point for your own exploration of daily energetic healing.
